Client:              Krukziener Properties

Location:          Queen Street, Auckland

Value:              $5,200,000

Period:             2014 (12 months)

Key points :

  • A major refurbishment of the podium levels (1-4) of this large inner city high-rise building creating 24 new retail outlets and 36 storerooms, each strata titled for sale purposes
  • With the building housing the façade of the Old Queens Head Tavern, extra care was needed to ensure work done in this area was sympathetic to the façade’s heritage status
  • With inner city roads rising steeply around the building, level entranceways to the new shops were a challenge. These were either cut through the existing façade and floor levels to maintain a level entry or, a new structual steel and lightweight steel framing was used to push the podium 5 metres out to the boundary line, then clad in 20mm marble on fibre-cement
  • Council arborists were consulted to ensure surrounding trees were undamaged and the project team worked closely with Auckland Transport for the efficient delivery and erection of the structural steel in busy Mayoral Drive which had no loading zones
  • All shops were finished with flush-plastered ceilings, recessed lights and marble floors
