Key points

  • Nestled close to the Auckland Harbour Bridge, this iconic 1070’s venue had fallen into disrepair and suffered from the “make-shift” additions of previous renovations
  • A complete makeover was undertaken and in just six months Cape had made major structual upgrades, replaced all external joinery (previously timber replaced with bespoke aluminium), installed doors big enough for a car to be craned inside and replaced all of the building’s roofs. Canted, battened ply cladding was introduced around the lower half of the building, creating an impression of a ship’s prow when viewed from the water
  • The interior fit-out was specific to this large function venue with timber parquet floors, handmade door hardware, black painted-glass toilet partitions, Italian marble tiles to the toilet areas and a 5-metre crystal chandelier
  • Site specific challenges included very high winds and tidal influences
